Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) is Tuesday, February 16. Our party may be canceled yet we will celebrate the spirit of Mardi Gras this year with a Courir de Mardi Gras! Rooted in French medieval history and brought to Louisiana in the 19th century, Courir de Mardi Gras is a tradition of masked, costumed participants making their way from house to house collecting ingredients for a communal gumbo.
As we will not be able to celebrate in person this year, we are adopting this practice, Courir de Mardi Gras, by asking our Sister Cities members to join in the spirit of Mardi Gras by sharing your good fortune and abundance with a Food Drive for members of our community who are food insecure. We have chosen Feed the Pack, the Food Pantry at NC State, as the recipient of our collection. Feed the Pack is a community-based initiative to combat food insecurity experienced by members of the Wolfpack family.
RSVP by February 12th (Friday) for donation pickups on February 13/14th (Saturday/Sunday).
Most Needed Items:
- Toothpaste, Granola Bars, Fruit Cups, Shelf Stable Milk, Spices and Condiments, Shampoo, Granola, Conditioner, Baking Ingredients, Hand soap.
- Please note – At this time, the pantry does NOT need these items: canned vegetables, canned beans, mac-n-cheese, chicken noodle soup, or rice.
- You may make a monetary donation instead here. Let Gretchen know if you want to pay by check.
We hope you will join us in this effort to be impactful in our community during the pandemic that has so changed our lives and our neighbors’ lives. We can make a difference! On Tuesday, February 16th, toast yourselves with a cocktail for a deed well done!
