Event Details:

On Saturday, December 2nd, Kenyans, friends of Kenya, government officials, organization/business leaders, and high-ranking government officials including Kenyan Ambassador H.E. Lazarus O. Amayo will commemorate Jamhuri Day with a reception at Dorothea Dix Chapel. This event will reflect on the road to six decades of achievements, networking, social and cultural celebrations, and more.

Arrival time for the Chapel event will be from 6 pm to 7 pm. The program will begin shortly thereafter. During the hour-long arrival time, people will socialize,  engage with a few booth tables, and learn more about Sister Cities while enjoying the beautiful music before the main guest arrives. Light Refreshments will be served.

Jamhuri Day, one of the most important national holidays in Kenya, is observed on December 12. The holiday formally marks the date of the country’s admittance in 1964 into the Commonwealth as a republic and takes its name from the Swahili word jamhuri (“republic”); December 12 is also the date when Kenya obtained its independence from Great Britain in 1963. Since Jamhuri Day has such historical significance, nearly every Kenyan celebrates the holiday to some extent. Celebrations include feasts, political speeches, parades, and dancing.
