IN MEMORIAM

George B. Chapman, Director of City Planning and resident of Raleigh since 1981, passed away on March 10, 2022. Since 1986, George and his wife, Gretchen, have pursued their shared love of French traditions and culture through Raleigh Sister Cities. Over the years they took many trips to Raleigh’s French sister city, Compiegne, including several Middle School student exchanges.

 

He worked on the establishment of Compiegne Park, just off Hillsborough Street. George was also involved in hosting visiting groups from Compiegne to Raleigh, sharing with them the treasures Raleigh and North Carolina have to offer. Raleigh Sister Cities provided George with wonderful friendships and memories.
