German Read-Aloud Day with Oberbürgermeister Madsen and Mayor Baldwin

Two mayors.Two books.Two languages.

Tons of fun.

That was the recipe on Friday November 20th when adults and children from both sides of the ocean joined together for a Zoom meeting Read-a-loud. This was Raleigh Sister Cities’ first Read-a-loud exchange and we were privileged to have the mayors of both cities as guest readers. Mayor Mary-Ann Baldwin read in English from Frog and Toad Are Friends, a lively book about the joys of friendship. Mayor Claus Madsen read in German from Together We Are Strong As A Beetle! ("Gemeinsam sind wir käferstark!") by Barbara Rose, also about friendship and working together.

The mayors embraced these two themes as they agreed to exchange Rostock/Raleigh merchandise and make plans for future exchanges.

Special thanks to Carolina Kinder for their participation. CK is a non-profit group that organizes playgroups, story times, German lessons, and German festivities in the Triangle in order to provide an opportunity to practice German and learn about cultural events.
